Samsung Washer dn Message: Let the Software Update Finish

The dn message on a supported connected Samsung washer means a software update is downloading. Controls, including the dial, may not respond while the update is in progress. Samsung says the process takes about 15 minutes.

Do Not Interrupt a Normal Download

Keep the washer powered on and maintain its Wi-Fi connection. Turning off the circuit, unplugging the appliance, or repeatedly pressing controls during firmware installation can prevent the update from completing normally. Do not start a wash cycle until dn disappears.

What to Observe

  • The message began after an update or connected-feature prompt.
  • The washer remains powered and connected.
  • The control does not accept ordinary selections during the download.
  • The display clears after the update finishes.

dn is a status message, not evidence that the main board has failed. It is also different from an AC/AE communication error, which reports a communication fault rather than an intentional software transfer.

The 30-Minute Boundary

Samsung advises requesting service when dn remains for more than 30 minutes while the washer has had continuous power and no Wi-Fi problem. Before that point, verify the home network is operating without rebooting the washer. If the router is offline, restore the network and allow the appliance time to continue.

If the Update Does Not Finish

Record the model number, how long dn has been displayed, and whether SmartThings reports the appliance online. Contact Samsung rather than attempting firmware files, hidden menus, or service-mode procedures from unofficial sources. Software recovery and control-board replacement are not homeowner tasks.

Keep the laundry out until normal controls return.
