LG’s ezDispense messages separate a drawer-position problem from dosing-pump problems. OPn means the washer was operated with the dispenser drawer not fully inserted or opened during operation. Ed1 and Ed2 concern the liquid-detergent side; Ed3 and Ed4 concern the liquid-softener side.
Match the Display Before Cleaning
- OPn: the drawer is open or not fully seated.
- Ed1: detergent level did not decrease and a detergent-pump fault was detected.
- Ed2: detergent level did not decrease and the detergent-pump circuit is open.
- Ed3: softener level did not decrease and a softener-pump fault was detected.
- Ed4: softener level did not decrease and the softener-pump circuit is open.
These messages apply to supported LG models equipped with ezDispense. A conventional manual drawer does not have the same reservoir pumps, so confirm the model and dispenser type.
For an OPn Message
Pause the washer, then push the drawer in evenly until it is fully closed. Check that a cap, pod, or laundry item is not blocking the drawer. Do not force a drawer that is misaligned or swollen with hardened detergent. If OPn remains with the drawer correctly seated, the position sensing or drawer mechanism needs service.
For Ed1 Through Ed4
Turn the appliance off before removing a user-removable reservoir. Check the product type: LG specifies liquid softener for the softener reservoir, while powder softener should not be placed there. Clean only the tray and passages identified as user-maintenance items in the model manual. Warm water and a soft brush can remove visible residue; avoid sharp tools that could damage seals or valves.
Ed1/Ed2 should direct attention to the detergent reservoir and its visible flow path. Ed3/Ed4 should direct attention to the softener reservoir. A clean tray does not clear an electrical open circuit or repair a dosing pump.
When to Stop
Request service when a properly seated, clean drawer still produces the code, liquid levels never change across a valid cycle, or detergent leaks outside the dispenser. Do not energize a pump outside the appliance, probe wiring, or remove the cabinet. Until repaired, use only an alternate dosing method that the owner’s manual explicitly permits.
