Samsung Washer Stuck on Sensing Load: What Is Normal and What to Check

“Weight Sensing” does not mean water should enter immediately. On supported Samsung washers, the basket first assesses the load so the control can choose an appropriate water amount. The useful question is whether the display advances after that brief measuring period.

Distinguish normal Samsung weight sensing from a washer that is failing to progress.

Work through these checks

1. Allow the initial sensing movement to finish without opening the lid or changing settings. Samsung states that this stage can take about 2–5 minutes.
2. If it does not advance, cancel the cycle according to the model instructions and remove an oversized, tightly packed, or single bulky item.
3. Confirm the hot and cold supply valves are fully open and the hoses are not pinched. Samsung notes that even cold selections can use both supplies on some models.
4. Check that the drain hose is not kinked, sealed airtight in the standpipe, or installed outside the height range in the model manual.
5. Look for a 4C/nF fill code or another displayed code. Follow that code rather than repeatedly restarting sensing.
6. If the owner’s manual provides Calibration Mode, run it with the drum empty and follow the exact model button sequence.

Possible reasons

• Normal load-weight measurement before the fill begins.
• A load that is too bulky, tightly packed, or difficult for the basket to assess.
• Restricted water supply, incorrect hose installation, or a drain-hose siphoning condition.
• Lost weight calibration after installation, movement, or a resolved spin problem.
• A sensor, drive, lid-lock, or control fault that requires model-specific service.

How to interpret what you see

Do not judge the fill by an older washer’s water level. High-efficiency Samsung models intentionally use less water and calculate the amount from the load.

Calibration is not a universal reset. The buttons and starting state vary, so use only the procedure printed for the exact model.

If the basket never moves, makes a harsh mechanical noise, or shows a code, stop the test and use the code-specific path.

One successful retry is useful evidence, but it is not proof that a damaged component repaired itself. Write down the cycle and stage if the message returns. A repeatable pattern gives support or a technician more useful information than repeated restarts, and it reduces the chance of turning a manageable fault into water or electrical damage.

Check the exact model before going further

Samsung top-load, front-load, and Bespoke Laundry Combo products do not share one sensing sequence. The model manual controls whenever its timing or calibration steps differ.

When the washer needs service

Request service when sensing continues indefinitely after supply, drain installation, load, and approved calibration checks; when the tub cannot rotate; or when the same error returns.

Document the circumstances without disassembling the washer: exact display, model, cycle, load, water level, unusual sound or smell, and whether the warning returned after the approved check.
