SmartDispense changes the first-use timing
On a supported front loader with a bulk dispenser, the first use can add roughly two minutes while the pumps charge. GE’s sequence places the start of washing at about one minute on an ordinary setup or about three minutes with that SmartDispense condition.
Observe progress rather than opening the door
- Confirm the door locks and the basket makes its expected movements.
- Listen for valve flow after the startup sequence.
- Avoid pausing repeatedly, which restarts parts of the process.
- Check that household valves are open if no water ever enters.
When waiting becomes a no-fill problem
A washer that remains idle beyond the documented sequence, displays an H2O or fill message, or never receives water needs troubleshooting. Do not bypass the door lock or pour water through the dispenser. Verify external supplies, then arrange service for internal valve, lock, or control checks.
Model and observation notes
A first-use SmartDispense delay should not be applied to every subsequent start forever. Once the pumps are charged, repeated long waits deserve a fresh observation. Compare a compatible ordinary cycle with SmartDispense enabled and, if the manual permits, a manual-dose cycle. Do not run the machine empty merely to defeat sensing; use the test load GE specifies. If the door repeatedly locks and unlocks without progressing, record that pattern because it differs from one child-safety pause. The dry spin is low-risk only with the door secured and the appliance level; never interrupt it by pulling on the handle.
