A highlighted key symbol or CL on a supported Bosch washer means Child Lock is active. The controls may appear unresponsive because the safety feature is preventing changes, not because the console has lost power.
Why there is no universal button sequence
Bosch states that activation and deactivation instructions differ by appliance. Use the E-Nr or full model number to open the correct owner’s manual, then follow the buttons and hold time shown there. A sequence from another Bosch panel can select an option without releasing the lock.
Confirm the icon before acting
- A key icon or CL points to Child Lock on the models covered by Bosch.
- A separate door-lock indication can remain while the drum is moving or water is unsafe.
- A flashing pause/play icon can indicate energy-saving mode, not Child Lock.
Wake an energy-saving display with the documented pause/play control before deciding that the panel is locked.
Safe unlock routine
- Let any active cycle reach a safe pause.
- Find the Child Lock label or manual instruction for the exact model.
- Press and hold the specified control for the stated time.
- Wait for the key or CL indication to disappear before choosing another cycle.
Restarting or disconnecting power is not a substitute for the correct Child Lock command and may leave the setting active.
When the symbol will not clear
If the documented controls do not respond, verify the display is awake and dry. Stop if a button is physically stuck, the panel is cracked, or another fault code appears. Do not open the console or short a switch. Bosch support can identify the correct procedure from the E-Nr and exact display.
Find the correct instruction without guessing
Use the full E-Nr or model designation from the appliance label to locate the correct manual. Bosch panels can use a key symbol, CL, a dedicated control, or a labeled combination, and the required hold time may differ. A video for a visually similar panel is not evidence that the same sequence applies.
Child Lock is a selected safety feature, so an otherwise normal display and no mechanical warning are important context. If the documented control does not respond, check whether the panel is powered and dry. Do not force a locked door or remove the console to reach the controls.
