dET means a supported Maytag front-load washer does not detect the detergent dispenser cartridge. If you intentionally use single-load detergent doses, Maytag says the message can be ignored. If the bulk cartridge should be installed, check its seating and the drawer.
Identify the Dosing Method
Look at the dispenser configuration and the model manual. An Optimal Dispense cartridge is a specific removable reservoir; it is not the same as a normal detergent cup. Do not install a cartridge from another model because it appears to fit.
Check the Cartridge
- Turn the washer off.
- Open the drawer and remove the cartridge as the manual shows.
- Wipe visible residue from the seating surfaces.
- Reinsert the cartridge fully and confirm the drawer closes.
- Use only the approved detergent type and fill level.
Why Detergent Can Still Dispense With dET
The code concerns cartridge detection. A model may still support a measured single-load dose in another compartment. Follow Maytag’s directions rather than assuming the washer is safe to run with an empty or misassembled bulk system.
Service Boundary
If the correct cartridge is present but dET remains, the detector or dispenser interface may be faulty. Do not tape or wedge the cartridge to mimic detection. Request service when the drawer will not seat, detergent leaks, or the display returns after correct installation.
Before the visit, keep the cartridge installed exactly as Maytag documents and photograph the drawer position. Removing unrelated dispenser pieces can hide the original seating problem and make a straightforward inspection harder.
Save the detergent label for accurate product verification.
