Samsung defines SDC and 5DC as detergent-drawer errors. The drawer has not been detected as completely closed. Samsung notes that a correctly seated drawer clicks into place.
What to Check First
Pause the washer, then pull the drawer out only as far as the owner’s manual allows. Look for a detergent cap, hardened product, a warped insert, or an overfilled compartment preventing the drawer from sliding home. Pods belong in the drum on models that direct them there; a pod in the drawer can block movement and dissolve poorly.
Clean the User-Removable Parts
- Turn the washer off before removing drawer inserts.
- Rinse removable cups or siphon caps with warm water.
- Use a soft brush for visible residue; do not enlarge openings with wire or sharp tools.
- Dry and reinstall every insert in its original position.
- Slide the drawer evenly until it closes and clicks without force.
Do not put the drawer or components in a dishwasher unless the model manual specifically permits it. High heat can deform plastic and create a new fit problem.
Drawer Error Versus Dispensing Problem
SDC/5DC is about closure detection. A drawer can close correctly yet still retain detergent because of water-flow, product, or siphon issues; that is a different troubleshooting path. Likewise, excessive suds does not automatically explain this code.
When Service Makes Sense
If a clean, correctly assembled drawer will not click into place, inspect for visible cracks or a damaged rail. Stop forcing it. The internal position switch, wiring, and dispenser housing are not homeowner-level repairs. Request service if the code returns with the drawer fully closed or detergent is leaking into the cabinet.
