Samsung describes a brief pop, honk, beep, or cork-like sound at the start of filling as the water inlet valve opening. When it happens once and water begins flowing normally, service is usually not indicated by that sound alone. Repeated hammering in the pipes or a valve that chatters without filling is a separate symptom.
Why the sound is sudden
The washer’s electrically controlled inlet valve changes water flow quickly. That rapid change can be heard at the cabinet and through household plumbing. Samsung’s noise guide treats the short opening sound as normal operation; it does not describe a long sequence of knocks.
Check the result of the valve action
- Confirm that water enters after the brief sound.
- Make sure both supply valves required by the manual are fully open.
- Look for kinked hoses without moving the washer onto them.
- Note whether the sound comes from the appliance or from pipes in the wall.
Separate valve pop from water hammer
A single appliance sound is different from pipes that bang repeatedly whenever flow stops. Loose fill hoses can also strike the rear cabinet. If the household plumbing shakes at several fixtures, a plumber is better positioned to evaluate pressure and hammer control.
Signs that need a different response
No water after the sound, continuous valve chatter, an inlet code, leaking connections, or filling while the washer is off should not be dismissed as normal. Close the supply valves if water will not stop. Do not energize the washer with hoses removed or probe the valve wiring; arrange model-specific service instead.
Model and observation notes
Household water pressure can make the opening sound more noticeable without changing the washer’s basic valve sequence. That does not justify adjusting a pressure regulator without measurement or local plumbing knowledge. If the noise is confined to the washer, confirm its hoses have the screens and connections specified by Samsung. If pipes throughout the home react, document which fixtures do it and ask a plumber about the supply system.
