Remove only the pieces the owner manual identifies as removable. Rinse away thick product and deposits, dry the components, and reinstall them in the correct orientation. A blocked siphon or misseated insert can hold much more water than the normal residual film.
Check the cabinet’s level
- Make sure every installed foot contacts the floor.
- Check front-to-back and side-to-side level.
- Do not compensate by placing loose shims under a foot.
- Run another cycle with correctly measured HE detergent.
Use the documented service threshold
If more than roughly one-half inch remains after cleaning and leveling, Whirlpool recommends service. Also request help when the dispenser leaks outside the cabinet or never releases its additive. Avoid drilling ports, using compressed air, or removing fixed trim; those actions can damage the water path.
Model and observation notes
The half-inch reference is a service decision from Whirlpool’s cited top-load guidance, not a universal ruler for every dispenser shape. Measure only where the manual shows the usable compartment, and do not insert tools into a narrow siphon well. A drawer tilted toward the front because the cabinet is unlevel can pool water differently from a blocked insert. Photograph the cleaned, reassembled dispenser after the same cycle twice. Consistency matters: one unusual pool after a splash or interrupted program is less informative than a repeated result with correct loading and additive amount. Report detergent or softener residue separately from clear water because it changes the likely path.
