ColdWash on supported LG front-load washers minimizes warm-water consumption; it does not necessarily promise that every drop entering the drum is at tap-cold temperature. LG describes using a minimal amount of warm water to help activate detergent, combined with 6Motion wash action. That is a feature design, not evidence by itself that the inlet hoses are reversed.
What the option changes
ColdWash is intended to reduce energy used for heating while maintaining cleaning performance through mechanical motion. The control can blend a limited amount of warm water and then rely on the selected cycle, load sensing, and wash motions. Incoming-water temperature also varies with season and the plumbing run to the appliance.
Option combinations are restricted
LG notes that ColdWash and Steam cannot be selected together on the documented controls. ColdWash and Water Plus may also be mutually exclusive. A skipped option or unavailable button can therefore be a compatibility rule rather than a failed control panel.
Use the cycle chart for the exact model. Do not copy a button sequence from another LG washer merely because the panel looks similar.
Check a true temperature complaint
- Confirm hot and cold supply hoses connect to the marked inlets.
- Open both household valves fully unless the manual says otherwise.
- Run nearby plumbing long enough to understand the available hot-water delay.
- Judge the selected option and laundry result, not only the first seconds of fill.
When normal blending is not the answer
Service may be needed if every temperature selection produces the same result after plumbing checks, a temperature code appears, or the washer overheats. Do not test live valve voltage or internal thermistor wiring. Record the model, cycle, option, and measured household supply conditions for a qualified diagnosis.
Model and observation notes
Water at the glass or gasket does not provide a reliable temperature measurement because small volumes cool quickly against the cabinet. If a true temperature check is necessary, start with household plumbing and the selected cycle specification rather than touching wash water during operation. ColdWash is intended for compatible, colorfast fabrics and normal soil conditions; stains that require a different temperature should follow the garment label. The option’s energy benefit comes from reducing heated water, while mechanical wash action carries more of the cleaning work. A user who expects a completely unblended cold inlet may therefore misinterpret correct temperature control as a crossed-hose fault.
