Do not confuse this code with Maytag LdL or LdU. Those are top-load lid-lock and lid-unlock conditions; F5 E4 here is documented for front-load models.
If the washer still does not recognize the door
- Confirm the door strike is present and not visibly cracked.
- Remove a sock edge or other obstruction from the seal.

Do not insert a magnet or tool to imitate a closed door, and do not operate the washer with the lock bypassed. Arrange service when the door cannot close squarely, the lock remains engaged after safe conditions, or the exact Maytag procedure fails.
Keep this separate from a lid-lock repair
The cited Maytag guidance applies to front-load washers and a repeated-cycle door-open condition. It is not the same journey as a top-load LdL or LdU lid code. Opening and closing the front door between cycles gives the control the expected door event; replacing lid hardware would not answer this intent.
If a garment, detergent buildup, or damage prevents normal closure, stop and correct only what is visible and accessible. Do not force the latch. A door that closes mechanically but is never recognized requires qualified testing of the latch circuit.
