LG Washer-Dryer Combo Cd Message: Cool-Down Mode After Drying

Cd on an LG washer-dryer combo indicates cool-down mode; it is not an error code. After or near the end of drying, the combo can tumble the load periodically without heat. LG says this rearranges and fluffs clothing to reduce wrinkles while temperatures fall.

What the appliance is doing

Cool-down protects both the load and the user from opening the door while conditions are still too warm. The drum may start and stop even though active heated drying has ended. That intermittent motion is expected during the mode.

LG states that cool-down can continue until you press an appropriate button to remove the clothes or for as long as four hours. Pressing a button other than a wash-cycle selection button clears Cd on the models covered by the guidance; the door may take about two more minutes to release.

A short removal checklist

  1. Confirm the display reads Cd, not dE, dHE, or another code.
  2. Let the drum stop before touching the door.
  3. Use the control described in the model manual to end cool-down.
  4. Wait for the lock to release; do not pull the handle against the lock.
  5. Remove the load and allow the drum to air out.

Cd versus a drying fault

Cd is a normal state following drying. dHE, by contrast, is a drying-function error on supported LG combo models. A load that remains damp may also reflect load size, selected drying level, airflow, or a separate code. Photograph the display so a lowercase โ€œdโ€ is not mistaken for an uppercase โ€œC.โ€

When cool-down needs support

Request service if Cd will not clear using the modelโ€™s documented control, the door never releases after the appliance is cool, the unit smells scorched, or the drum continues abnormal motion beyond the documented period. Disconnect power if there is smoke or severe overheating. Do not bypass the lock or open the cabinet to stop the drum.

What to expect before unloading

During Cd, the combo may tumble periodically without applying normal drying heat. This helps manage the temperature and reduces the chance of laundry sitting tightly packed after drying. The duration and door behavior depend on the supported model, so use the manual rather than forcing the door when it does not open immediately.

If Cd appears only after a drying program and the unit continues the documented cool-down behavior, it is a status rather than a drying fault. A separate error code, burning odor, no drum movement, or laundry that remains wet across repeated comparable loads should be recorded as a different symptom.
