dET means the detergent dispenser cartridge is not detected on supported Whirlpool front-load washers. Whirlpool notes that the message can be ignored when single-load detergent doses are being used instead of the optional bulk cartridge.
Confirm the Dispenser Configuration
Not every Whirlpool washer has an Optimal Dispense cartridge. Check the model manual and look at the drawer inserts. If the cycle is being supplied by a single measured dose placed in the approved compartment, dET may simply report that no bulk cartridge is installed.
Reseat the Cartridge
- Turn the washer off.
- Open the dispenser drawer and inspect for a crooked cartridge or an insert blocking the drawer.
- Remove and reinstall the cartridge in the orientation shown in the model manual.
- Confirm the cap and any removable parts are secure.
- Close the drawer completely without forcing it.
Wipe visible detergent from the seating surfaces with a damp cloth. Do not alter the cartridge, tape down a detector, or pour product into an unapproved opening.
dET Versus F8 E2
dET reports cartridge detection. F8 E2 reports a dispenser-system problem. A misseated cartridge can affect dispensing, but the codes should not be treated as interchangeable. Record the exact display before cleaning or requesting service.
When to Escalate
If dET remains with the correct cartridge installed and the drawer closed, the detector, cartridge interface, or wiring may need inspection. Continue with single-dose detergent only if the owner’s manual permits it; otherwise leave the washer unused until support confirms the safe operating method.
Have the cartridge part number and washer model ready when contacting Whirlpool. A cartridge that physically fits is not necessarily the approved component, and that distinction matters before assuming that the detector itself has failed.
